Shocking Release Could Ultimately Help the Buffalo Bills
The NFL offseason is already filled with news, rumors, re-signings, trades, and some pretty surprising releases.
The Buffalo Bills have already had their share of activity. They extended MVP quarterback Josh Allen, re-signed edge rusher Gregory Rousseau, released Von Miller, and that's just from this past weekend. Expect the Bills to do a lot of things, too, in the coming days and weeks, with the NFL draft on the horizon and plenty of teams offering trades and releasing players.
Two players many believed the Bills were targeting, Myles Garrett and DJ Metcalf, are off the board. Garrett signed a new deal with the Cleveland Browns, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback ever. Metcalf was traded to Pittsburgh. Still, that doesn't mean the team won't have options to grab big-name players.
This player might be someone Brandon Beane makes a move for, and it would be a big help, literally, to the Bills' defense.
Shocking Release Could Ultimately Help the Buffalo Bills
The Bills need help on their defensive line to generate more pressure and stop the run. This player might be a perfect fit. The Atlanta Falcons have shockingly released Defensive Tackle Grady Jarrett.
Jarrett is a two-time Pro Bowler who has anchored the middle of the Flacons' Defense for a decade after being drafted by them in 2015. He is a fan favorite and all-time player for the franchise who now finds himself looking for a new team. He might be a perfect fit for the Bills.
Jarrett is 6' tall and 290 pounds. He has 36.5 sacks in his career, which is a lot for a defensive tackle. He was ranked 51st in the top 100 players in the NFL in 2021. He was a Walter Peyton Man of the Year award finalist the past season.
Will Grady Jarrett Join the Buffalo Bills?
Why he might not join the Bills? He's a Georgia lifer. Sometimes, the cold weather can dissuade players from moving north. It will also depend on his contract, as he was a cap casualty.
From the Bills' perspective, there may be some injury concerns. He tore an ACL in 2023. Many say he had a good rebound year last season, though. The question will be if that is true and if he has lost a step. He's also 31, which isn't bad for a defensive tackle, but he isn't young, either. However, the Bills like to rotate defensive linemen a lot, meaning he might not be worn down as much as he would in other defensive systems.
What the Bills will like is that he's a high character and highly productive player. Jarrett is widely applauded for his leadership on and off the field. There's no doubt that Beanse will almost certainly inquire.
Many think it's a good idea, too.
NFL free agency begins Wednesday, March 12, at 4 pm ET.
