A fast-moving storm moved across Western New York late on Sunday and Monday morning, bringing some much-needed rain to the region, and it looks like that will continue.

Today, we are looking at scattered showers throughout the day across Western New York. Some of the storms could be severe at times this afternoon.

The rain is much needed not only here in Western New York, but almost everywhere in New York State.

Much of the state, including Western New York, is under a drought watch after a very dry summer. Drought watches are issued as an early warning sign of potential drought conditions in an area.

So far, September has been really dry. There has only been .72 inches of rainfall this month. Overall, we are about 3 inches below normal for this time of year. We have received around 35 inches of rain in 2025. The normal average for yearly rainfall by this point of the year is near 28 inches.
