ERIE COUNTY ARREST: Laser Pointer Man Gets Caught in New York State
One man from Erie County, New York is being charged with some big crimes. He's being charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree directing a laser at an aircraft.
In addition, there are some big fines attached to these crimes as well.
Erie County Sheriff's were flying their helicopter on Sunday night when a man from Buffalo was shooting a blue laser toward the aircraft and struck the aircraft multiple times, according to a Facebook post from the Erie County Sheriff's.
“This reckless behavior will not be tolerated,” said Sheriff Garcia. “Not only did it put our aircrew at risk; it put everyone in the vicinity at risk. We would like to thank the Buffalo Police Department for rapidly responding to take this individual into custody.”
They must have some crazy technology nowadays because they were able to identify the source of the laser and actually traced it back to the person who was doing it over on Navel Avenue in Buffalo.
The man was arrested and charged and now the federal aviation administration can give him a fine of $11,000 for each of the violations when a laser is shined at an aircraft.
This is not the first time we have heard about such a dumb thing happening in Western New York. At a Buffalo Bills game at Highmark Stadium a few years ago there was a person who was shining a laser at the players during the game. The person was found and then was later charged and banned from the stadium for the rest of his life. He was a season ticket holder as well. I don't know how people think that is funny to shine a laser at someone or a aircraft specifically the aircraft because you are just going to hurt the people on board and possibly the people below.
