Here are today's trending stories in Western New York.
1-The snow is here in Western New York and it looks like the Southtowns and Southern Tier have gotten the brunt of the snow. Several inches has fallen so far this morning in places like Hamburg and Eden while the Northtowns and Niagara County got a dusty to inch of snow.
2- Because of the snow today, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has issued a state of emergency for parts of Western New York. With the snow and blowing wind, travel could be hazardous and if you have to be on the roads make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going. 3- The Buffalo Sabres winless streak continued last night as they fell to the New York Rangers 3-2 at KeyBank Center. The Sabres have yet to win in their last 8 games. The last time they won was back on Nov 27th when they beat the San Jose Sharks on the road. The Sabres are off tonight before heading to Washington to take on the Capitals on Saturday.
4- There was no grand prize winner from last night’s Powerball drawing, but the good news is that there were two “Big Money” winners in New York State. 5- This weekend you can give back to those in need. The Erie County Sheriff’s Mount Patrol is holding its bi-annual “Mounted For Meals” food drive this Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm at Market In the Square in the Southgate Plaza. They will be collecting food and money for the Response to Love Center.
6- Santa Claus is coming back to Buffalo this weekend. Bring the kids out for a free photo a chance to win prizes and so much more this Saturday from 11 to 1 at Shanor Electric’s Showroom on North Buffalo Street in Orchard Park. You can also donate a new unwrapped toy to the Salvation Army’s toy drive.
7- The largest craft beer festival in New York State returns to Buffalo in 2025. Buffalo on Tap is coming back on Saturday, February 8th at the Buffalo Convention Center. There will be over 150 beers, ciders, seltzers, and more. 8- The Cans for Christmas food drive continues through December 15th. You can make donations of non-perishable food items to those in need at several drop-off locations across Western New York.
