Here is a look at today's top trending stories.
1-This morning is the calm before the snowstorm, we are looking at rain today before a cold front changes that rain into snow and lots of snow for parts of Western New York. A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for parts of Western New York starting today at 4 pm and going until 1 pm on Friday. 2-3 feet of snow is possible over the next 48 hours.
2- With all that snow on the way, travel will be impacted as well. This morning it is a wet start but tonight for the ride home you could see a mix of rain and wet snow. The biggest travel issue will be tomorrow, with possible travel advisories or bans due to the heavy lake effect of snow. You might want to start planning on working remotely if possible for Thursday. 3- The Buffalo Sabres will try to end their 7-game winless streak this evening as they wrap up their 5-game home stand at KeyBank Center. The Sabre last won a game on November 27th when they beat the San Jose Sharks on the road. Tonight’s game against the New York Rangers is set to start at 7 pm.
4- No one claimed the New York State record Mega Millions jackpot for $617 million dollars, but don’t throw away your tickets. The New York State Lottery announced that 4 “Big Money” winning tickets were sold in New York. Each one of those tickets matched four out of five numbers and also had the Megaball and won the 3rd place prize of $10,000. 5- West Seneca Native Syndey Sterlace was the only member of Team Gwen to make it to The Voice finale last night. Before the winner was announced she said how much it meant to her to be on Gwen’s team. (audio) After all the votes were counted, Syndey ended up coming in 3rd place overall.
6- The National Buffalo Wing Festival will have a new home for 2025. After spending the past four years at Highmark Stadium, the festival is returning to where it first started, Sahlen Field in Downtown Buffalo. The festival moved to Highmark in 2020 when the Toronto Bluejays took over the ballpark during the COVID-19 season. Next year’s Wingfest will take place on August 30th and 31st.
7- The largest craft beer festival in New York State returns to Buffalo in 2025. Buffalo on Tap is coming back on Saturday, February 8th at the Buffalo Convention Center. There will be over 150 beers, ciders, seltzers, and more. It is all presented by Consumer Beverages, ECMC, Transitowne Ram, Buffalo Gift Emporium, Buffalo-Local, and Buffalo Brew Pub and part of the proceeds benefit WNY Heros.
