A typical Buffalo summer is filled with fun, sun, and tons of warm weather. However, from time to time, the warmer weather can also trigger a phenomenon that can wreak havoc in the region. So it should come as no surprise thata Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood warning was issued for parts of Buffalo, Kenmore, Tonawanda, and Eggertsville in the evening hours of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Western New York Thunderstorms Cause Floods & Sewer Backups
In North Buffalo, Kenmore, and Tonawanda, the thunderstorms filled several streets with water, causing flooding in basements around town, and causing sewer backups all over the region.
Stormwater stations all over the region started to report sewer backups in the middle of the storm, and neighbors all over Western New York went to social media to talk about how bad the roads got while the rain was falling in the region.
Large rainfalls and flooding like this are the primary cause of sewage ending up in our waterways.
While the flash flood warning isn't expected to last for very long, the conditions that caused the formation of the thunderstorms remain. People in the area should take care when going out in the streets.
