The Buffalo Bills are preparing to play the New York Jets this Sunday at Highmark Stadium. It will be the first real home game in almost a month and be the second of three straight AFC East matchups.

The Bills are 9-3 and atop the AFC standings and looking to finally get homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

However, the Bills will now have to do so without one of their best players.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott told the media on Wednesday afternoon that edge rusher Von Miller is out for the season, after undergoing ACL surgery.

McDermott said that during exploratory surgery, it was discovered Miller did have an ACL tear and a repair was done.

The Bills did not originally think Miller had an ACL tear, after he underwent testing. Then Miller was put on injured reserve, which would mean he missed four games. That's when the Bills decided on exploratory surgery and it was discovered that he did tear his ACL.

Banged Up Bills, who has medical advice regarding injuries, said to a reply that while it's not very common, testing can sometimes miss something like an ACL tear.

Even an MRI can miss knee injuries, including an ACL tear, which Ian Rapoport reports.

This is the same knee that had an ACL repair in 2013.

This means the Bills will rely on Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa for quarterback pressure, along with players like Ed Oliver, Jordan Phillips and Tim Settle.

To add further bad news, linebacker Matt Milano will miss practice on Wednesday with a knee/leg injury, which leaves his status for Sunday up in the air.

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips also will miss practice on Wednesday.

The Bills could be shorthanded this Sunday on defense against the Jets.
