A product listed for sale at local Bath And Body Works shops caused an uproar after some customers reported that the packaging represented “Ku Klux Klan hoods.”

Shoppers across the state were floored when they looked at the newest candle listing on the Bath And Body Works websites, heading to social media to see if anyone else initially had the same thought and comparison.

The majority of consumers did.

The candle in question has 3-wicks and it is called “Snowed In.” As you might have guessed, the product was supposed to be a seasonal product for the company, highlighting snow and winter. However, many people in New York state did not take it that way.

The image on the candle packaging was supposed to show snowflakes made out of paper, but the outer edges of the snowflakes are “white and cone shaped,” according to WGRZ. It doesn’t help that two holes are cut out near the center, which at a glance can look like “a Ku Klux Klan hood.”

Ask yourself if the packaging actually looks like snowflakes. Because I don’t know about you, but my paper snowflakes never looked like that.

After Bath And Body Works representatives were made aware of these concerns, the product was pulled down from the company website – citing that the incident was “unintentional.”

A spokesperson for Bath and Body Works said, “We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward.”
