Thanksgiving Dinner Costs Have Changed For New York State
Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and if you don’t plan ahead, your pockets may feel crunched for money. The average costs have changed for 2024, and when you compare this year’s costs to the previous years, there is a noticeable difference.
It is arguably the most anticipated food day of the year, with the best dinner selection you can have for a home cooked meal. Think about all the options included for Thanksgiving dinners: turkey, ham, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, canned green beans, canned pumpkin, and more. That’s a lot of things you have to not only prepare ahead of time for food consumption, but you have to make sure that you are prepared for the monetary value of these items to change.
Good Morning America looked ahead to the 2024 Thanksgiving Food Forecast, and the good news is that turkey prices will drop approximately 16%! However, most of the popular foods for Thanksgiving will see an increase in prices. Take a look at the cost adjustment in prices below:
- Ham prices are up 5.2%
- Sweet potatoes are up 4%
- Russet potatoes are at an all time high – up 14%
- Canned green beans are up nearly 9%
- Canned pumpkin prices jumped up 30%
While it’s not fun to see the prices increase like this, there is a silver lining: a lot of grocery chains are attempting to alleviate the costs with some Thanksgiving discounts.
Aldi is offering a basket that serves full meals for up to 10 people for under $47. The offer will actually be in stores across the country from now until Christmas.
Walmart has a Thanksgiving deal that will serve 8 people for less than $7 per plate, with 29 customer favorite holiday items (including turkey).
