History was made this past weekend in Buffalo, New York as a portion of the New York State Thruway was temporarily closed to vehicular traffic.

There are so many fun and exciting events taking place this summer in New York State. From Niagara Falls, to New York City, there are dozens of things for families and individuals to do.

But this event that took place over the weekend required a bike, some skill and guts!

The MOST New York Thing Anyone Said This Past Weekend

This past weekend, hundreds of people got on their bicycle to take part in the annual SkyRide in Buffalo and it was the first time that the I-190 was closed for bikes!

The New York State Thruway sent out this alert to warn drivers.

"TRAVEL ADVISORY - I-190 BUFFALO: The I-190 north is closed between Exit 6 (Elm Street) and Exit 9 (Fort Erie Canada - Porter Avenue - Peace Bridge) until approximately 10 a.m. for the GObike Buffalo SkyRide. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour".

The busy summer continues this week and for those who love to ride a bike, New York State has miles and miles of safe, and some challenging, trails and bike paths to check out. Stay safe and remember to wear a helmet!
