Josh Allen And His New Backup Have Been Best Friends For Years
The Buffalo Bills have signed a new backup quarterback to play behind Josh Allen, and fans weren’t surprised to see who it is.
Obviously, Bills fans hope that starting quarterback Josh Allen stays healthy and in peak condition this year. But considering his mysterious wrist injury last season, on top of all of those risky running leaps to get a first down, it’s essential that the Bills have a quality QB on standby.
The Bills pretty much have that locked down with Matt Barkley, and now we know another quarterback is being added to the roster to replace Case Keenum, who recently agreed to a two-year deal with the Houston Texans.
Buffalo Bills Sign Kyle Allen To Backup QB
The news of the Bills signing Kyle Allen is getting mixed reviews. The “other” Allen admittingly didn’t have a great year last year. In the two games he started with the Texans against the Dolphins and Browns, he threw four interceptions and lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
Although he’s expressed confidence in the signing, Bills GM Brandon Beane even admitted that Kyle Allen has some things to work on.
...The thing I talked about with Kyle, some of the downfalls that he's had is just, it's funny, it's a little bit like Josh, when he tries to do too much.
However, the friendship between Kyle and his starting QB Josh could prove to be an asset to the Bills’ offense.
Josh And Kyle Allen Have Been Friends For Years
Although they’re unrelated, Josh and Kyle Allen are close like brothers. They met before the 2018 NFL draft, sharing a quarterback coach and even becoming roommates for a time. The two Allens continue to train together in the offseason.
When announcing he was joining the Bills, Kyle said about Josh,
I'm just here to support him in any way I can. I think our relationship over the last six years, we're super close. We're boys.
It’s difficult to say how much playing time Kyle Allen will get on the field or what he can accomplish if he does. But if the relationship between the two quarterbacks remains strong, it can only add good vibes and positivity to the team.
We can only imagine how confusing it will get with two quarterbacks named “Allen” in the locker room, though…
