Deadly Broccoli Has Not Been Sold Yet in New York State
The recall has now hit the highest level that the United States FDA can issue. The broccoli is considered potentially deadly, but NO bags were sold in New York State.
If you bought the bagged broccoli from Walmart with an expiration date of December 2024, you are going to want to throw it out. Specifically, the recall is for Braga Fresh's washed and ready-to-eat 12-ounce bags of Marketside Broccoli Florets due to the possibility of Listeria. There was a random testing on the broccoli in Texas, and they discovered listeria.
The recalled bags of broccoli were located in Arkansas, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
Listeria infection can be especially harmful for some people, including
- Pregnant women
- Newborns
- Adults aged 65 or older
- People with weakened immune systems
Other people can be infected with Listeria, but they rarely become seriously ill.
Listeria is one of the reasons that many doctors will tell most pregnant women to avoid any lunch meat if possible. Uncooked meat has a higher chance of containing listeria in the meat. Cooking the meat will essentially burn it right off. Raw shellfish, other seafood, unpasteurized milk, and more. Some doctors will even say that fish with mercury is a big red flag as well.
