As of Saturday morning, the town of Hamburg received over 60 inches of snow, burying buildings and bringing the area to a standstill. That number may rise even higher thanks to continued lake-effect storms throughout the weekend.

Residents of Hamburg were devastated to learn that Braymiller’s Lanes, a popular bowling alley in the Southtowns, was one of the buildings severely damaged on Friday night due to the heavy weight of snow - causing its back roof to completely collapse.

A popular home to bowling leagues and birthday parties since its opening in 1942, Braymiller’s Lanes is the oldest business in Hamburg and is beloved by many residents who grew up in the area. They grew up spending many enjoyable nights at the small but cherished bowling alley and continued the tradition with their own children. The family-owned Braymiller’s Lanes even celebrated its 80th birthday earlier this year.

One of those residents who expressed their love for Braymiller’s was New York State Governor Kathy Hochul.

In a press conference on Saturday afternoon updating Western New York residents on the storm, Governor Hochul revealed that she visited the legendary bowling alley to see the building for herself and added that she assessed the damage was “likely beyond repair.”

This is so incredibly sad for the Braymiller family and their patrons. Braymiller’s has already had to deal with some hardships after closing for five months in 2020 due to Coronavirus restrictions. Now, it is highly unlikely we’ll be able to revisit this beloved spot any time soon.
