In the past, it's been common to see multiple captains on a team.  This year though, there will only be two people wearing a "C" on their jersey.

It's an honor to be named a captain on a sports team.  You're looked at as a leader and are expected to be the example of what the rest of the team should model.  That's why many teams have, at the very least, three captains on the team so that there is always one on the field in every phase of the game (offense, defense, and special teams).

The Bills have named their captains for the 2024-2025 season

Sean McDermott addressed the media this afternoon and started his press conference by announcing the captains for this year.  It was no surprise to hear him say that Josh Allen and Terrel Bernard would be captains.  This will make Allen's 6th straight year with his first time being named a captain in 2019.  Bernard will be wearing the C for the first time in the NFL.  Last year he showed that he's earned it.

Why did the Bills only name two captains?

The Bills only have two "technical" captains this year, but there will be more people who will be expected to lead this team.  McDermott explained that there will also be a leadership council of 10 additional players to help out.  The Bills have plenty of veterans on this team who have seen success and know what it takes for a team to earn a championship.

The Bills will have their first chance to show off their leadership on Sunday as the Bills will take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at 1pm for the season home opener at Highmark Stadium.
