Dorothy Height, served as president of the National Council of Negro Women for 40 yrs! She stood next to Martin Luther King, whom she knew since he was 15, during his I have a dream speech.
She advised President Dwight D. Eisenhower to end school segregation, and she later encouraged President Lyndon B. Johnson to consider African-American women for government posts.

In 2010, before her death at age 98, Dorothy Height sat with the President, Obama to celebrate MLK’s Birthday and talk about her place in civil rights history.

How awesome is it that she got to witness the election of America's 1st Black president in her lifetime!! Three months after this meeting, he delivered her eulogy in the National cathedral.
