It is true that there is no off-season when it comes to the National Football League.

As Buffalo Bills players get ready to clean out their lockers and head home for the "off-season" the personal staff of the Bills was in full work mode signing 10 players to futures contracts.

So what is a futures contract? According to SI.com they are used for players who were with the team but not on the active roster.

An NFL reserve/futures contract is given out by teams to players who did not finish the regular season on an active roster, whether they are on a practice squad or are a free agent. These agreements go into effect on the first day of the new league year

One of the pluses for teams to sign practice squad players or other players to futures contracts is that no other team in the league can sign that player in the off-season. The futures contract will count towards the salary cap next season and towards the 90 man roster when training camp begins.

Here are the 10 players that the Bills signed to a futures contract.

  • DT Brandin Bryant
  • G Jacob Capra
  • WR Tanner Gentry
  • LB Joe Giles-Harris
  • DB Tim Harris
  • WR Isaiah Hodgins
  • DE MIke Love
  • DB Nick McCloud
  • TE Quintin Morris
  • DB Josh Thomas

The biggest name on that list is wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins. The 6'3" wide receiver was a 6th round pick by the Bills in the 2020 draft. He signed a four-year deal in May of 2020 and then because of an injury was placed on the Injured Reserve list in September that year.

He spent this past season on the practice squad and now will be in camp with the Bills next season.
