Following their reunion announcement earlier this year, Xscape are ready to tell their life story in their own authorized biopic. We have to stress “authorized” because apparently there’s another biopic in the works that Xscape are not supportive of.

The authorized Xscape biopic will be executive produced by Mona Scott-Young who is currently shopping the project to television networks. The film will tell the story of how members Kandi Burruss-Tucker, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and siblings LaTocha and Tamika Scott joined forces to become the platinum-selling R&B quartet.

Meanwhile, a second biopic is in development by TV One and the women of Xscape are not happy about it. According to the Los Angeles Times, the network is producing Who Can I Run To: The Xscape Story, which is reportedly inspired by the Unsung episode back in 2015. The episode was their highest-rated in the show's nine-year run on the network. TV One's movie will cover the group’s rise in the R&B game as well as the drama that caused them break up.

Xscape is not feeling it. “We feel the recent announcement of an unauthorized biopic on our lives is disrespectful and disappointing,” the group said in a statement about TV One's planned biopic. “We are not, in any way, participating in that project and it will never ‘represent’ our true story.”

Despite the two competing biopics, Scott-Young is happy that Xscape is allowing her company, Monami Entertainment, to produce their authorized life story.

“Xscape has had a huge impact on music and are one of the most successful female groups of all time,” she said in a statement. “Monami Entertainment is honored to be charged with bringing the authorized Xscape story to the world.”
