WNY residents we are not out of the 'Ice Cold Water' yet.  According to WGRZ, there are Winter Storm and Wind Chill Warnings for the following areas:

  • Southern Erie and Wyoming counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 p.m. Thursday.
  • Northern Erie and Genesee counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 a.m. Thursday.
  • Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Thursday.
  • Niagara and Orleans counties are under a Winter Storm Warning until 1 PM Wednesday
  • Wind Chill Warning is also in effect for all of WNY from 6 a.m. Wednesday until 6 p.m. Thursday, and until Friday morning for N. PA for wind chills down to -25 to -35 F.
  • Flood Warning for north central Erie and southwest Niagara counties until 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. High-water levels on Niagara River were due to an ice jam between NY Power Authority intake and Cayuga Island, so flooding of low-lying areas along the Niagara River is possible.

TRAVEL ADVISORY:

Erie County executive Marc Polencarz issued this statement, according to News Reports:

“A government’s primary responsibility is ensuring the safety of the public, and the conditions we will be experiencing over the next two days are potentially life-threatening.  We are urging residents to stay off the roads as much as possible during this winter event, for their own protection and to minimize potential problems for the Public Works and Emergency Services personnel who will be working to keep us all safe during this winter storm.”

Tractor trailers and commercial buses are banned from the following state routes the I-190, I-290, NY-400, US-219 from Peters Rd to I-90,  NY-5 from NY-179 to I-190, I-90 Thruway from Exit 46 to PA line.
