Two years after her untimely death, the life and music of Whitney Houston will be chronicled in a new biopic on the Lifetime TV channel.

Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett will direct the project, which is tentatively titled 'Whitney Houston.'

The television movie, set for a 2015 premiere, will detail Houston's rise to fame and her tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown.

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," said Bassett in a statement. "Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

Brown and Houston were divorced at the time of her 2012 death -- she drowned in a hotel bathtub at age 48. The couple's daughter is 21-year-old Bobbi Kristina Brown.

There's no word on who will play Whitney Houston in the movie.

The biopic is being executive produced by Larry Sanitsky and penned by Skem Bitterman both of whom worked on 'Betty and Coretta,' which starred Bassett and Mary J. Blige.
