Sad news to report out of Atlanta. Up-and-coming rapper Slim Dunkin (real name Mario Hamilton) was shot and killed Friday night (Dec. 16). The 24-year-old artist was a member of Waka Flocka Flame’s Brick Squad Monopoly crew and recently dropped a new mixtape this past Halloween, which featured Gucci Mane, Roscoe Dash and others.

According to wsbtv.com, Dunkin was shooting a music video at a recording studio when he got into a verbal altercation with an individual who then pulled out a gun and shot him at least once in the chest. Dunkin was pronounced dead at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Investigators are interviewing eyewitnesses but so far have not identified a suspect as of yet. “It seems everybody witnessed something very different,” said Atlanta Police Major Keith Meadows. “We’re just trying to go back and make sense of everything.” Police have not recovered the handgun that was used.

Dunkin was a childhood friend of Waka Flocka Flame and appeared on Gucci Mane and Waka’s ‘Ferrari Boyz’ mixtape released this past summer. “I would say he’s a star before he became a star. He started rapping a couple of years ago, and basically his career has just went to the top,” said close friend Nicole “Covergirl” Westmoreland. “I feel like one of our greatest got his life ended, definitely short, way before his time. And I just can’t believe it.”

We would like to send our condolences to Mr. Hamilton’s family. Rest in peace, Slim Dunkin.
