Usher Accused of Stealing 2004 Hit Song ‘Caught Up’

Usher has been hit with a major lawsuit over his decade-old hit single, 'Caught Up.' A trio of songwriters claim that the R&B crooner stole their song and now they are looking for restitution.

According to the lawsuit that was filed in Manhattan Federal Court Friday (Nov. 8), the complainants -- Zacharia Edwards, Mitch Moses and Vince McClean -- alleges they penned the track in 2002 and played it for someone at Usher's label, Arista Records, who then played it for then-CEO L.A. Reid.

The songwriters never heard back from Arista, but in 2004, they heard a version of their song with the same title, "theme, melody, hook, lyrics and chorus of the musical compositions."

The tunesmiths are now suing Usher, and his recording label, for unspecified damages.

Usher’s 'Caught Up' is the fifth single from his best-selling 2004 album, 'Confessions,' which sold over 10 million copies worldwide. The song is credited to Ryan Toby and hit-makers Andre Harris and Vidal Davis.

Attorneys for Usher had no comment on the legal matter.
