Saturday (August 6th), marked the highest single-day U.S. death toll since the military involvement in Afghanistan.

Thirty American soldiers  and eight Afghans were killed after the plane in which they occupied was allegedly gunned down by the Taliban.

The majority of the occupants were members of SEAL Team 6, the unit responsible for killing Osama bin Laden back in May of this year.
Military officials say the unit was on a mission targeting a Taliban commander responsible for attacks on U.S. troops.
While it has not been confirmed that an attack brought down the helicopter, the Taliban has taken responsibility for the attack, claiming to have downed the helicopter with a rocket-propelled grenade.
NATO declined to comment on the details of the operation or the circumstances of the crash.
