Tupac Shakur Biopic To Begin Production in 2014
It appears that a new biopic on Tupac Shakur could arrive as early as next year. According to Deadline, Morgan Creek Productions and Emmet/Furla Films have agreed to co-produce the film, tentatively called ‘Tupac.’
Production on the movie will begin in Atlanta in early 2014.
The producers, among them veteran music executive L.T. Hutton, are hoping to start filming in February with a $45 million budget. They have the rights to use Tupac’s music and his mother, Afeni Shakur, will serve as a producer on the film.
Although a script is currently being written, there’s no word on who will play the iconic late rapper in the movie.
As of now, ‘Training Day’ director Antoine Fuqua has been tapped to direct the biopic. The filmmaker promises that the movie will focus on Tupac’s “last few days, that trip from L.A. to Vegas, and where his head was during that journey.”
Tupac Shakur was slain in Las Vegas in 1996, but his musical legacy continues to thrive in hip-hop and pop culture. Posthumously, the late rapper has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
