This Day In Black History-Rosa Parks Birthday + Postage Stamp [VIDEO]
Civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born this day in 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus spurred a city-wide boycott. The city of Montgomery had no choice but to lift the law requiring segregation on public buses. Rosa Parks received many accolades during her lifetime, including the NAACP’s highest award.
She will receive a posthumous honor for today as the Rosa Parks forever postage stamp goes on sale today on her birthday.
“At the time I was arrested, I had no idea it would turn into this. It was just a day like any other day. The only thing that made it significant was that the masses of the people joined in.”
