19-year old Chelsea Chandler from Cheektowaga has died after being hit by a car on a crosswalk last night.

She was crossing Harlem Road at Walden around 11:30 pm Thursday evening when a vehicle heading South on Harlem struck her. Officers say the driver did have a green light and didn't see Chandler crossing.

Chandler was then rushed to Sisters of Charity Hospital where she was stabilized and then immediately transferred to the Erie County Medical Center. Unfortunately she later died from her injuries.

“This is a tragedy. This is every parent’s worst nightmare. A 19 year old girl lost her life. It’s just a tragedy,” said Assistant Cheektowaga Police Chief Jim Speyer. “We lost a beautiful person from our community. She was working, contributing to society, and unfortunately her life was lost.”

No charges have been filed against the driver. Police say the driver has been cooperating in the investigation and a breath test at the scene showed that she had no alcohol in her system at the time of the crash.

The accident is currently under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident has been asked to contact the Cheektowaga Police Accident Investigation Unit at 686-3580.

Blessings and prayers for her family.
