Do You Know Your History, Who You Are And Where You Came From? [VIDEO][EXPLICIT]

After getting home from the radio station – on yesterday’s Know Thyself Community Wednesday, I found myself being presented with a Youtube video (with lyrics) from Rass Kass. The 7 minute video entitled ‘Nature of The Threat’.

In the following song, Rass Kass drops some knowledge, that every man and woman should possess. It’s essential that we as people know who we are, and where we come from. Know Thyself!

Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority-Know Thyself Book Club [VIDEO]

Advertising visionary and author of Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority says that "black people are survivors of the Middle Passage and centuries of humiliation and deprivation, that have excelled against the odds, constantly making a way out of "No way!" At this pivotal point in history, the idea of black inferiority should have had a "Going-Out-of-Business Sale." After all Barack Obama has reached America's Promised Land.

Experiencing The Plight Of My Community First Hand

Every other Thursday I go to the barber to get a haircut and this Thursday was no different from any other Thursday except, I witnessed something that shook me so much that I was forced to write about it on the website.

When I arrived at the barber shop I was approached to purchase something from a nice lady in the community that sales baked items. I told her that I need to go back outside to my truck to get a couple of dollars that I keep in the sun visor and would be right back. As I opened the door of my vehicle I hear pop, pop, pop, pop, pop and see a young man standing at the corner about two blocks away shooting a gun. He then takes off running across the street while immediately being chased by the police who roll up on him almost as soon as he finishes shooting the gun. I stood there for a few minutes just to see what was going on as police flooded the area…now remember this is about 2:30 in the afternoon, broad daylight and about 90 degree weather.

Getting Back to Our Roots – Perception of Our Hair

Working at a station that encourages those of African-American descent to “Know Thyself” is something that I take great pride in. After all we, as African-Americans, are descendants of the great kingdoms of Africa. And considering the greatness of these nations I believe we should take pride in what and who we were before we were brought to this continent. My focus is mainly on a specific form of identity. The identity I am referring to is black hair and how we have come to treat it. Or should I say, abuse it.
