The old past time of trading baseball cards has gone to a new level thanks to trading-card company Platinum League. The company is releasing its “first-ever interactive hip-hop trading cards” on May 1. Rap icons Snoop Dogg, Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur are among the 100 artists featured in the collection.

What makes them interactive is that each artist card will come with a custom QR code icon that enables the music fan to download a diverse array of exclusive content from the artist, including video messages on Platinum League’s website.

The trading cards, priced at $3.79, will be available at major stores like Target, Best Buy, Walmart, 7-11 and other locations. In addition, Platinum League is rolling out a television commercial featuring Diggy Simmons, Snoop Dogg’s daughter Cori B. and Mindless Behavior (who are also featured in the card collection). The ad will air on BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and other cable outlets on April 24.

A limited number of cards will also be autographed — specifically, the B.I.G. and Tupac cards have signatures from Volletta Wallace and Afeni Shakur, respectively.

This is a cool idea from Platinum League and should be a big hit with hip-hop heads and kids alike.
