The Win For Seattle!!! But seriously:

The city of Seattle is getting ready to make some big changes. The city filed a motion on Friday to dismiss charges and vacate convictions for marijuana possession from 1997 to 2010, which is the year the city stopped prosecuting marijuana possession.

According to the NY Post, the motion still has to get court approval, but once it’s signed 542 people will have their convictions erased.

Seattle Mayor Jenny A. Durkan and City Attorney Pete Holmes wrote in the motion that:

“A drug conviction, even for the misdemeanor offense of Possession of Marijuana, can have significant negative collateral consequences affecting a person’s employment opportunities, education options, qualification for government benefits and programs, travel, and immigration status,”

Seattle will be following behind San Francisco, who made a similar move earlier this year by erasing thousands of marijuana convictions going all the way back to 1975.

Can't wait until NYS passes this.
