Sam Smith Channels James Bond in ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ Video
Sam Smith is channeling his inner James Bond for the "Writing's on the Wall" video. He's Smith, Sam Smith.
For the Bond-inspired visual, the 23-year-old crooner dons a black suit as he stands before five coffins draped with the United Kingdom flag (also called Union Jack). Smith is also seen venturing in the same places as the super spy does in the fourth addition to the James Bond film titled Spectre. Fans get a sneak peak of what's to come in the upcoming film as well since the Luke Monaghan-directed effort is layered with its scenes.
The British singer capitalizes on the secret agent's love life in his ode, which is matched with visuals as Daniel Craig as Bond passionately kisses his love interest, Lucia Sciarra (played by Monica Bellucci).
The In the Lonely Hour creator released the video via Twitter a little late much to the disapproval of his fans. But, in the end, he said he was "very proud" of the visual and called it a "beaut."
"Writing's on the Wall" debuted two weeks ago and is the first Bond theme song to gain the No. 1 spot on a U.K. charts. Smith is also the first male solo artist to record a song for the theatrical film since 1965.
Monaghan also directed Smith's video for "I'm Not the Only One" and A$AP Rocky: A$VP, an 11-minute TV documentary on the Harlem rapper that was released in the U.K.
Spectre arrives theaters on Nov. 6.
