As we previously reported, Charlie Murphy passed away today (April 12) after battling leukemia. He was just 57 years old.

The older brother of actor/comedian Eddie Murphy, Charlie became a household name after appearing on Dave Chappelle’s popular Comedy Central series, Chappelle’s Show, with his famous skits, Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories. The Rick James and Prince skits were some of the show’s most popular, and remain cultural reference points years later.

Murphy went on to host the Charlie Murphy’s Crash Comedy series and the stand-up special Charlie Murphy: I Will Not Apologize. Prior to appearing on Chappelle’s Show he appeared in the films Mo’ Betta Blues, CB4, Jungle Fever and more.

Of course, it didn't take long for celebrities to react to his passing.

"We just lost one of the funniest, most real brothers of all time," Chris Rock tweeted.

"Rest in paradise, Charlie Murphy," wrote Raekwon, while Russell Simmons chimed in with, "Just came out of mediation and learned that one of my friends and my biggest comedy idols passed. D--n. I loved Charlie Murphy."

Former NFL star Plaxico Burress sent a tweet as well. "RIP to my man Charlie Murphy," he wrote.

Comedians Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley and George Lopez also expressed their condolences. Recently, Murphy toured with Lopez, Cedric, Hugley and Eddie Griffin on “The Comedy Get Down.”
