There are few folks in all of music whose name garners more attention than Prince. The singer and multi-instrumentalist seems to always deliver the goods and his latest release, "What If" falls right in line with that reputation. A remake of Nichole Norderman's 2005 cut, "Brave," the song was created in anticipation for Prince and his band, 3RDEYEGIRL, new performance trek, the Hit and Run tour, which kicks off Mar. 14 in Kentucky.

Prince usually isn't one for releasing studio covers of other artist's songs, but he decided to make an exception to the rule and blesses us with this impromptu number. The track is a winner from the moment you hear the opening electric guitar riffs and live drums and draws in the listener with ease, leaving the lyrics to finish off the job.

"What if you're right, he was just another, another nice guy / What if you're right? / What if it's true, they say the truth will only make a fool of you / What if that's true?" he croons. Prince is as vocally superb as usual, giving the innocent lyrics a distinctive edginess to them.

But by the time you get to the chorus, the song's intended message shines through as they group sings, "What if you're wrong, what if there's more / What if there's hope you never dreamed of hoping for?" They combine the secular with the spiritual and with favorable results. Now, if we could only get a proper sequel to Graffiti Bridge.
