The United States Postal Service is about to up the price of a first class stamp.

Come January 2012, the price of a first class stamp across Western New York and the nation will increase a penny to 45 cents, up from the current 44 cents.

All of this comes as a move from the postal service to close a multi-billion dollar budget gap.

This will be the 24th postage increase since 1863, when the cost of a first class stamp was a mere 3 pennies.
