Common’s appearance at the White House recently is still stirring up debates as news personality Bill O'Reilly has challenged comedian Jon Stewart to one over the controversial issue. According to sources, Stewart criticized Fox News in a rap on his show last Thursday after Common's appearance at the White House during a celebration of American Poetry on last Wednesday. Fox, O'Reilly and other media outlets have been at odds over Common's appearance, due to the subject matters of his poems and one song in particular, "A Song for Assata" from his 2000's Like Water for Chocolate album. Sources say O'Reilly’s fed up with Jon’s attacks, and he's ready to talk to him face-to-face. In a recent statement, O’Reilly said on his show The O'Reilly Factor May 12th, “I would like to debate you about the Common situation, it's important. This is far beyond dopey lyrics and dopey presentations,” responding to Stewart's rap. "What we do care about is the President of the United States understanding that there are elements in this country who are subversive. Imagine the mothers of the slain police officer's thinking, when they see a guy like Common in the White House." Considering all the controversy this has generated, Common remained humble on a recent tweet. "Whew! What a week! Peace y'all, be safe and enjoy yourself!"
