NYPD’s Top Black Official, Philip Banks III, Steps Down
The NYPD has been the center of many debates and issues dealing with race, making the community lose trust in it's police force. People of the urban communitieshave also been feeling that the police force has been abusing their power & today became even more fearful after NYPD's Top Black Official, Department Chief Philip banks III, stepped down randomly Friday after getting reports that he would named NYPD's Deputy Commissioner, a position that apparently is one of the most powerless.
Rumors say that Commissioner Bratton forced Banks into that position, a job he didn't want:
CBS New York reports:
As 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern reported, advocates for minority police officers say Banks’ resignation sends the NYPD in the wrong direction.
“It is a total travesty to see someone who has a career of Banks’ now walk away. We lose so much ground in which we have gained,” said Charles Billups, of the Grand Council of Guardians.
Billups said Police Commissioner Bill Bratton forced Banks out by promoting him to a position with little power.
Bratton denies that’s the case, adding that he’s satisfied with minority representation currently within his department.
