Emergency preparations were being made in New York City Wednesday, ahead of the monster storm Irene.

The first major storm of the Atlantic hurricane season packed sustained winds of 120 MPH, and was taking a dangerous course while pounding the Bahamas.

Currently moving NW at 12 MPH, Irene is expected to gain more power as it takes a more northerly approach towards the mainland US East coast, with forecast predicting that New York will feel the wrath of the storm around 2 p.m. Sunday.
