In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, many of Hollywood's biggest names have come forward with words of wisdom and condolences.

Over the weekend, a quote attributed to Morgan Freeman reacting to the media's sensationalism of the tragedy went viral on Facebook and Twitter. But despite the quote having some truth to it, it has been discovered that the quote never came from Freeman.

The quote was posted on a "RIP Conneticut [sic] Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting Victims" page on Facebook, among many others, and gained 68,426 shares and 256,239 likes on that page alone.

Then, users on Reddit traced the quote back to a man by the name of Mark on Facebook, who ironically wrote the original post and commented, "If I know the internet, someone will attribute the quote to Morgan Freeman or Betty White and it'll go viral."

Freeman has not issued any statement on the hoax nor the tragedy itself.

Regardless of where the quote came from, it helps share a different perspective on the tragedy and our thoughts and prayers remain with the families affected.
