1 of every 4 teenager in America say they have been bullied, according to Stomp Out Bullying, a national advocacy program. Many parents are losing faith in the school system to protect their children from the harsh physical and emotional abuse of these bullies.

One mother in Indiana decided to send her son "Dynasty" to school armed and ready to fight back.

This story is gaining national media attention and is one of our Tuesday Hot Topics here on WBLK.

Chelisa Grimes gave her son Darnell “Dynasty” Young, a stun gun to protect himself against bullies who tease him about being gay and carrying a purse.

On April 16th, a group of 6 bullies surrounded Young in his high school hallway and began hassling him. They called him names, cursed and threatened to beat him up. Fed up with feeling helpless, Darnell pulled out the stun gun and fired it in the air to scare them away.

It worked! The mean kids left him alone and he proceeded to his next class. Minutes later, Darnell "Dynasty" Young was arrested and suspended for 5 days.

According to the IndyStar.com teachers and administrators at Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis, IN blame the bullying on Darnell's flamboyant personality and fashion. He accessorized his outfits with his mom's purses and jewelry. He also love to dance.  His dance routine to Beyonce's Single Ladies placed 2nd in the school's talent show in December.

So just because someone is different, this school says it's okay to tease the student about it?? No it is NOT! 9 of 10 gay students say they have been bullied at school or online for their sexual orientation.

This story could unfold in schools right here in WNY. If your child is being bullied at school, how far should you go to protect him/her?
