Meek Mill Receives Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players' Award

Meek Mill can now add a Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players' Impact Award to his list of achievements. On Thursday (Sept. 27), the Philadelphia rapper was honored at the inaugural R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players in New York with the award.

The Legends of the Summer artist was presented his award by CNN pundit Van Jones and thanked Billboard for recognizing his fight for justice reform. "You know, where we come from, we don't even get recognized for the shit we do sometimes," Meek Mill said after receiving his award.

Other hip-hop figures honored at the 2018 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players event included Kevin "Coach K" Lee and Pierre "Pee" Thomas, the COO and CEO of Quality Control Music, who received the Executive of the Year Award. The label is the home of Migos, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, City Girls and more.

Since Meek's release from prison in April, the rapper has been fighting to reform the criminal justice system. Meek also formed a reform awareness foundation with Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and teamed up with Jay-Z for a documentary series about the system.

In related news, Meek is gearing up for a new album and recently previewed a new song he has about NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. “They won’t lynch him by hanging from a tree/They lynch his bank account,” Meek raps on the upcoming song.
