Thomas Blige, 63, the father of R&B star Mary J. Blige is in critical condition after being stabbed early Thursday morning by an ex-girlfriend, reports The Huffington Post.

The word is Blige confronted the woman about slashing his tires and that is when the altercation occurred, stabbing him a total of three times, once in the neck.

The incident happened in a Battle Creek, Michigan apartment complex. The singer's father was rushed to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Here's more on the story from the Battle Creek Enquirer:

[Detective Sgt. Jim Martens] said police have handled seven domestic violence complaints between Blige and his 50-year-old former girlfriend since August.

The woman was charged in October with aggravated domestic violence after she hit Blige in the head with a glass candlestick. She entered a no-contest plea to the charge and on Jan. 10 was placed on six months probation. She was ordered to have “non-assaultive” contact with Blige.

Mary has not spoken kindly of her father over years and has often talked about the abuse her mother and family suffered in his presence; and that he left the family when she was 4-years old.
