Lionel Richie Saluted by John Legend, Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, Luke Bryan & Tyrese at 2016 Grammy Awards

Veteran pop icon Lionel Richie was saluted with a star-studded performance at the 2016 Grammy Awards on Monday night (Feb. 16). Richie was named 2016 MusiCares Person of the Year and received a well-deserved celebration. Chart-topping artists John Legend, Demi Lovato, Meghan Trainor, Luke Bryan and Tyrese performed a medley of hits from the former Commodores singer.

Grammy host LL Cool J and late-night talk show host James Corden provided the formal introductions as they gave nods to Richie's past hits.

Grammy-winning Legend was on the piano to sing “Easy,” the hit 1977 Commodores song that spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B Songs chart. Then Lovato came out to perform an emotional rendition of Richie's famous ballad, “Hello.”

Luke Bryan put a country twist on Richie's 1984 hit, “Penny Lover,” which segued into Meghan Trainor’s bubbly rendition of “You Are.” Finally, Tyrese performed a funky rendition of the Commodores 1977 classic “Brick House.”

But it wasn’t over just yet. Of course, Richie had to hit to stage to perform his upbeat dance hit “All Night Long (All Night).” The performance was so good the audience (and maybe even TV viewers) could have have danced all night long. See what we did there?

Unfortunately, the 66-year-old soul icon didn’t get a chance to give an acceptance speech in front of his music peers. Nevertheless, Richie being feted on music’s biggest night is enough thanks.
