Family and friends of Lamar Hawkins III gathered to honor the life of the 14-year-old who apparently committed suicide in his school’s bathroom on September 10 after facing down bullies for months, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

His mother Shaniqua Hawkins stood weeping before family and friends at a memorial service for her son Lamar Hawkins III and said she will not say goodbye to her son.

"And so I say I love you," she said, reading a letter to "Shaq," the nickname her son earned for his outsized personality. "See you later. Good night, but never goodbye."
