Watch Kodak Black’s ‘Project Baby’ Documentary

Kodak Black debuts a documentary titled Project Baby, today (March 31) along with the release of his major label debut album Painting Pictures. The 24-minute mini-movie, presented by Atlantic Records, Sniper Gang and WorldStarHipHop, chronicles the rise of the Pompano Beach, Fla. spitter from his first freestyle under the moniker J Black to his ride to stardom and the legal troubles that have plagued him throughout the journey. Cameras follow Kodak through his neighborhood, on the way to his probation office and into his mother's living room.

"A nigga blood raw with it. I don't sugarcoat. I talk about the struggle. I talk about how I got it now. I talk about what I did to get here," says the rapper when explaining his rap style around the nine-minute mark.

There are some great moments of vulnerability throughout the mini-doc. Kodak gets sentimental when talking about getting his mom out of the projects and into a new home of her own.

"She always be like thank you, thank you. It get to the point where I be like, 'Ight, ma. No, thank you," laughs Kodak while b-roll of his mom cooking plays onscreen. "Niggas appreciate it more 'cause we came from nothing too though."

Painting Pictures runs for 18 tracks and houses features from the likes of Future, Young Thug, Bun B, Jeezy and A Boogie. Production was handled by Mike WiLL Made-It, Honorable C.N.O.T.E., Metro Boomin, Nav and more.
