Kendrick Lamar made his mark in the music industry with his debut and is now receiving some notoriety. On Thursday, June 27, the good kid, m.A.A.d city rapper will receive the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ (ASCAP) Vanguard Award. This top honor recognizes the impact of musical genres that help shape the future of music.

“Kendrick Lamar’s smart, structured story-telling and genre-bending sound make him stand out amongst his peers. He pushes boundaries with his creativity, perfectly illustrating everything that the ASCAP Vanguard Award recognizes,” says ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams.

ASCAP VP of Membership Nicole George-Middleton also calls the Top Dawg emcee“one of the most exciting acts in the rap game today” with “big things…in store for his career.”
