Rapper Kendrick Lamar received the prestigious Vanguard Award at the 26th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif., Thursday night (June 28). Veteran producer Dr. Dre was on hand to present the Compton rhymer with the honor.

“Kendrick Lamar is a class act,” said Dre about his young protege. "I’m proud to know him. I’m proud to work with him and he is an important part of the new generation of hip-hop, and it’s definitely continuing the legacy of Compton.”

True indeed.

K.Dot graciously accepted the glass trophy and took pictures with his mentor Dr. Dre. Unfortunately, Lamar didn't go to the podium to give an acceptance speech. What's up with that?

We'll just have to wait and see if he'll give an acceptance speech at the 2013 BET Awards, which airs this Sunday (June 30) at 8PM ET. Not only is K.Dot performing, he is up for eight nominations, including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist.

Congratulations, Kendrick Lamar on your Vanguard Award.
