Kelly Rowland, who became a mother in November, may soon play one on Empire, E! News has reported. The site says that the "Kisses Down Low" singer will take on the part of hip hop mogul Lucious Lyon's mother in a series of flashbacks. The show routinely aired clips from the character's past in the first season.

Empire writer's room
tweeted a photo of the former
Destiny's Child band member hanging out on set. "Thank you for spending some time with the #Empire writers!" the post read.

Rowland most recently appeared as an actress in Think Like a Man, a 2012 romantic comedy based on Steve Harvey's 2009 book.

Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Oprah have all been confirmed for roles on Empire Season 2, Billboard has reported, while Ne-Yo and Timbaland will contribute original music to the production. The 18-episode arc will premiere on September 23 and be broken into two nine-episode runs that are punctuated by a mid-season break.
