Kanye West’s announcement of a presidential bid in 2020 during his long-winded speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards certainly has everyone talking. Even current presidential candidate Donald Trump finds the talk of the Chicago rapper running for the presidency interesting.

The New Yorker magazine took notice and decided to put Yeezy on the cover of their Sept. 14 issue. This marks the first time in the magazine’s 90-year-old history that they ever put a rapper on the front cover.

Although it’s a cartoon, it’s a replica of a historic photograph of Harry Truman winning the election in 1948. According to historians, Truman was so widely expected to lose the election that the Chicago Tribune erroneously printed the incorrect headline, "Dewey Defeats Truman." During his victory speech, then President-elect Truman held the infamous edition of the Tribune, telling the press, "That ain't the way I heard it!"

Illustrator Barry Blitt designed the New Yorker cover, dubbed “2020 Vision,” and he hopes that it reminds people that it’s never too early to look ahead to future elections. He also suggests that we shouldn't underestimate Mr. West, just like the press did with Truman back in 1948.

"It doesn’t take a whole lot of imagination to be reminded of another scrappy kid who won the Presidency, back in 1948, against all odds," said Blitt about the cover. "The press wrote him off, too. That’s right - Harry Truman.”

The New Yorker magazine cover, featuring Kanye West, will arrive on newsstands next week.
