Juelz Santana Charged With Trying to Bring Gun on Plane

Juelz Santana's legal woes continue. Yesterday (May 2), the Associated Press reported the rapper had been indicted on weapons charges after authorities said he tried to bring a gun on a plane at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The two count indictment was made public on Wednesday, though the indictment was given on Monday by a federal grand jury. Santana is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a weapon on an aircraft. Originally, the rapper faced both state and federal charges but the state dropped the charges, deferring to federal authorities. He'd plead not guilty to the state charges.

The charges stem from a March 9 incident, when airport authorities found a loaded .38-caliber handgun and unprescribed oxycodone pills in his carry-on bag. Santana fled the airport but turned himself in three days later on March 12.

The Dipset rapper was released nearly a month later, on April 6 under a $500,000 bond secured by his mother’s Englewood, N.J. home.

XXL recently caught up with Santana's group mate, Jim Jones, a couple of weeks ago, who at the time, said Santana is in good spirits.

"He ready to do some music, he said he was writing a lot of music," Jones said. "So, you know, he got his good foot, he got a focused mind."

If convicted on both counts, Santana faces up to 20 years in prison.
