Jay-Z‘s popular hip-hop clothing line Rocawear laid off half of its employees on Jan. 6, one day before Blue Ivy Carter was born, reports New York Post. According to the New York State Department of Labor, 28 people out of a staff of 56 were let go for “economic” reasons.

The New York post reports that Jay-Z rarely shows up for work at the Rocawear headquarters in New York. “It’s kind of like he’d given up on the brand,” a source told the newspaper. On Jan. 7, Jay-Z and Beyonce welcomed their first baby, Blue Ivy Carter, to the world. Following the birth, Hov released ‘Glory,’ a song dedicated to his newborn daughter.

Jay-Z started Rocawear in 1999 with business partner Damon Dash and sold it in 2007 for $204 million to licensing company Iconix Group, which owns Ed Hardy, Peanuts and Candies apparel brands. Ronnie DeMichael, Rocawear’s operating chief, nor Iconix Group, had any comment on the matter.
