Jamiroquai's founding member and original keyboardist Toby Smith has died.

Smith formed the band back in 1992 with lead singer Jay Kay, Stuart Zender, Nick Van Gelder, and Wallis Buchanan. Smith recorded on the band's first five albums between 1992-2002 and co-wrote many of the group's songs, including "Virtual Insanity," "Deeper Underground," and "Space Cowboy."

According to the fan site Funkin, Smith left the group to spend time with his family. The site also states that Smith set up a recording studio at his home after leaving the band. He started producing cider with some friends and built up a love for classic cars.

Smith produced and managed the U.K pop band The Hoosiers. He co-produced and co-wrote on X-Factor winner Matt Cardle's third album Porcelain back in 2013.

He passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at age 46.  Stuart Zender left a heart-warming tribute to his friend and band member announcing his death.

"The most talented musician I have ever had the honor to make music with," he stated. "There will never be another like you Toby. Your light will shine eternally."
