In New York today MTV.com reported that Ja Rule reached a plea deal with prosecutors in a Manhattan courtroom that will only get him two years in prison. Apparently, Ja got caught up with gun charges form a bust in July 2007.

The former rap star pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, a class D felony in the second degree.

Ja Rule will be sentenced in February.

When this happened just over three years ago, JaRule performed with Lil Wayne at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre with the Cash Money superstar headlining his first New York City bill.

Both rappers in separate instances, were pulled over in their vehicles by the NYPD. Both were subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm, and Lil was also brought up on drug charges.

Ja Rule's was one of three men in his car to be that caught cases, all three were arraigned on the same charges. The cops found a loaded semiautomatic weapon in the rear door of his car, which would've bought the Queens native up to seven years behind bars if it had gone to trial. Reaching the plea agreement will likely get him only16 months in prison, and then a half of post-prison supervision.
